matrox_w1 definitely needs to be excluded. My G400 12.3 install was an upgrade from 12.2. The mga driver would not load because:
This module is not in the list I sent out, it was never a candidate to be built-in.
(EE) mga: The PCI device 0x525 at 01@00:00:0 has a kernel module claiming it. (EE) mga: This driver cannot operate until it has been unloaded.
I got mga to work by setting 'blacklist matrox_w1' in /etc/modprobe.d/90-user.conf, setting NO_KMS_IN_INITRD="yes" in /etc/sysconfig/kernel, and rebuilding initrd.
Fresh installation of 13.1m1 produced no hang as described in $SUBJECT, but for mga driver to work, all the same reconfiguration as in 12.3 was necessary.
In both 12.3 & 13.1m1, absent configured xorg.conf or xorg.conf.d/, video mode was 1920x1440, too high for comfort with my CRT, so I used the xorg.conf file I was using in 12.2 to produce 1600x1200, and virtual 1920x1200.
This is unrelated with this discussion, but I hope you reported these bugs in bugzilla so that all issues can be addressed in both 12.3 and 13.1. -- Jean Delvare Suse L3 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kernel+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kernel+owner@opensuse.org
