Yes, mkinitrd is needed to be updated on your system if you plan to use kernel 3.5 or later. I intentionally disabled publishing of mkinitrd from kernel:stable since I was afraid of incompatibilities with older opensuse versions. Nevertheless I have just checked that dependencies of mkinitrd are not that strict and no problem should arise. So I enabled publishing now.
