Screen saver session turns blank ("white")
Hi, Configuring with KDE, my screen saver starts (say with Forest) correctly but after a couple of minutes the screen turns out blank - I mean "white" (with quotes) because is not really white color but a white brightness with a darker periphery. With typing or mouse movement the normal screen (not the screen saver images) comes back. I use Suse 9.2 and KDE 3.3 (Toshiba Satellite 5105-S501 with NVIDIA GeForce4 440 Go + 32MB DDR video memory) and generally Thanks in advance for your attention and possible help Eduardo -- Eduardo A Nogueira, MD, PhD Professor of Internal Medicine Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory University of Campinas School of Medicine Campinas, Sao Paulo Brazil

Have you tried other screensavers, testing after selecting and does this occur with each? I can't say that I have seen or heard of this happening before, but I wonder if it might have something to do with your graphics setup. Do you have enough colors selected, is it the GL screensavers that cause the problems? Do you have the nvidia drivers installed and setup correctly? You should be at 16 bit minimum for colors. Of course, it may just be a hardware problem, but I'm more prone to think it's your setup. You might try dropping back to init 3 and running sax2, if you haven't already. ctrl-alt-F1 login as root init 3 press enter sax2 setup, test, finalize return to prompt, type: init 5 regards, Lee -- --- KMail v1.7.2 --- SuSE Linux Pro v9.2 --- Registered Linux User #225206 "Don't let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game!"

I had a similar problem with my GeForce 440, the OpenGL screen savers were concerned. Check your installation with 3Ddiag. My solution was to install the accelerated Nvidia driver. Udo
Thanks to Lee (BandiPat) and Udo for helpful hints On Wednesday 15 December 2004 20:50, BandiPat wrote:

As Udo also suggested, installation of the NVIDIA drivers and 3D habilitation solved the problem Thanks again Eduardo -- Eduardo A Nogueira, MD, PhD Professor of Internal Medicine Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory University of Campinas School of Medicine Campinas, Sao Paulo Brazil
