[opensuse-kde] openOffice repos problem with KDE 4.5.2
there's a problem using openOffice.org repos (http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/OpenOffice.org:/), stable as well as unstable, with KDE 4.5.2. (there's a forum thread about this here: http://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php?t=448801 -- at least one other user noticed the same problem.) openOffice crashes when trying to "view data source" (F4) with an error message about floating point this-or-that (don't have it installed anymore, and didn't have debug sources installed at the time). i noticed a similar problem a few months ago, which was solved by changing java from openjkd to sun. at this time i was using sun's java already, and even installed different versions (1.5, 1.6, 1.7), all of which produced the same error. next i upgraded to OO.o unstable, with the same result. for good measure i tried replacing the OO.o repo with libreOffice, also getting the same result. thinking it might have to do with the latest nvidia driver (260.19.12), which seems to cause problems for many KDE 4.5.2 users i disabled the nvidia driver, running nuveau instead, and logged into the awesome destop env. under awesome libreOffice worked fine, displaying "data sources" without crash--even after i re-enabled the latest nvidia driver. this leads me to think that there's a problem between openSUSE's OO.o repos & KDE 4.5.2. next i installed OO.o from it's original website, version 3.3 (RC), and found that this works--with or without nvidia driver, and under KDE 4.5.2 as well: no crashes. at present i'm still using sun java 1.7 (http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Java:/sun:/Factory/), but i'll try the stable OO.o tarball and different java versions later today. i'm not sure now where this bug comes from: KDE, openOffice, or go-office, which seems to be the source of the openSUSE OO.o repos. what should i do now? -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

that's not the case. to make sure i tried without the nvidia driver, starting KDE 4.5.2 with nuevo. the same crash happens, but not in awesome windows manager. it's KDE & openOffice, not nvidia related. still my question: where to report this? I posted a bug report about this: https://bugzilla.novell.com/process_bug.cgi I'm currently building openOffice against K:D:F in my OBS repo to see if that fixes it. I will report back when it is done. -Todd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Hm. You can probably work around it by disabling the kde4 integration then. See how: http://kdeatopensuse.wordpress.com/2010/06/05/week-22-kde-at-opensuse/ I don't think anybody will be mad at you if you report in bugzilla.novell.com - but I could be wrong. Not sure who's the proper upstream for the kde4 integration. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

nope, i tried without kde4 integration: still doesn't work. a couple of times i got some cryptic error report from java, but when i tried to report that on the oracle bug tracker, i didn't get anywhere. i think the place to report might be go-oo, since openSUSE uses go-oo far as i know. the workaround for me is to download the tarball from http://www.openoffice.org/ . their stable version and also RC 3.3 work fine in KDE 4.5.2, with & without the latest nvidia driver, and any version of java, even openjkd. -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

What I did to get it work: 1. uninstall the OpenOffice_org-kde4 package 2. type this in the commandline: export OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP=none I know the first step did not fix the problem, while the second step did. However, I do not know if the first step is necessary. -Todd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org
