Cannot preview jpeg files in konqueror (sometimes) , SuSE 8.2
Hello Strange problem that I've been unable to find in archives. Two users on this machine, Barbie and Ken There are two directories, directory A has 16 jpeg files, directory B has 45 jpeg files. When Barbie logs in and uses konqueror to go to directory A, all files are previewed and each icons become a miniature of its contents. When Barbie goes to directory B, all files are not previewed and instead all the icons become little painter's pallettes with a paintbrush. When Ken logs in and uses konqueror to go to directory A or B, all files are NOT previewed and instead all the icons become little painter's pallettes with a paintbrush. I unfortunately do not use KDE so I appeal to higher authorities. I've gone through most of the konqueror settings (increasing memory etc) and have not cracked this nut. TIA and Cheers

I was messing about w/ my wife and daughters logins and I noticed the same discrepancies Barbie and Ken did. On SuSE 9.0, kde3.2 the settings are in the Konqueror menu Settings -> Configure Konqueror -> Previews & Metadata. Maximum file size is an important variable (I use 3.6 mb, your milage will vary) , we also all seem to have "Use Thumbnails..." checked in the same tab. Once this is done then Konquerors "View" menu View -> View Mode lets you choose "icon view", "detailed list view" etc, you need to choose "Icon View" to see previews. Then View -> Preview lets you choose what kinds of files to view previews of. I think (but am not sure) that the settings can be made permanent by selecting Settings -> Configure View Profiles select "file management" and then save. There may be a way to have each directory remember its own view settings but I'm not sure how. Thanks for the tip. I tried it with 40MB in the "Previews & Metadata" and still no go. I'm going to rename the .kde directory and try again.
