[opensuse-kde] pyside vs. pyqt requires
It looks like there is a push underway to get more support for pyside, and a number of python packages now support both. I think we are getting to the point where we need some way for packages to specify that they need either pyqt or pyside, but not necessarily both. If everyone agrees, what would be the proper way to do this? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

FYI, PyKDE4 and derived packages (including but not limited to Kate's PATE) explicitly require PyQt, as it was a conscious design decision, so they'd need PyQt-only Requires. -- Luca Beltrame - KDE Forums team KDE Science supporter GPG key ID: 6E1A4E79

I am aware of that. And there are other packages that are like that as well (pyqwt is another notable example, at least for now). I am not suggesting getting rid of the existing PyQt4 and Pyside provides (in fact I doubt such a thing would even be possible). But outside of the KDE community, the resistance to pyside is much less. Especially in scientific python projects support for both is becoming the norm. matplotlib, guidata/guiqwt, and enthough all support (or will soon support) both pyside and pyqt. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org
