[opensuse-kde] How do I upgrade my OpenSuSE 11.3 KDE to 4.6?
Hi, In the past I have not tried to upgrade KDE between upgrades of my base SuSE, but now that KDE4 is changing so fast, I think I need to upgrade it without waiting. But I don't find anything in Yast2 that allows me to do that. Seems like there used to be something like that, but I don't see anything now. How do I go about upgrading to 4.6? I tried to upgrade the KDE in my 11.3 installation and ended up very sorry I did. 11.4 is out. I'm guessing upgrading your 11.3 to 11.4, KDE along with it, is not too high-risk. Add the repositories listed here and update KDE4 to the versions in the KDE4.6 stable repository. http://en.opensuse.org/KDE_repositories#Stable_aka._KDS_.28KDE_SC_4.6.29 C. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

I beg to differ, and would recommend KDE:Release:46 to the user interested in the latest KDE releases. KDE:Distro:Stable, as recommended by C above, is fixed at 4.6.0 and is mainly of interest to members of the team as we use it to prepare online updates for vanilla openSUSE 11.4. KDE:Release:46 has 4.6.1 now and 4.6.2 soon. These will contain many small fixes which are not significant enough to online-update but contribute to a better feel overall URL: http://en.opensuse.org/index.php?title=KDE_repositories&stable=0&shownotice=1&fromsection=Stable_aka%_KDS_%28KDE_SC_4%6%29#Upstream_release_aka._KR46_.28KDE_SC_4.6.29 Will -- Will Stephenson, openSUSE Team SUSE LINUX Products GmbH - Nürnberg - AG Nürnberg - HRB 16746 - GF: Markus Rex -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

I missed the bit in the description of KDE:Distro:Stable that suggested to use KDE:Release:46. On that note.... isn't that somewhat of a misleading description? If it's a staging area for online updates.... shouldn't it be labeled as such? If someone is using the default KDE4 with 11.4, which are they getting? I would assume only KDE:Distro:Stable. I just added that.

This was true when KDE:Distro:Stable was named. KDE:Release:4x came along afterwards, when due to the 11.3 -> 11.4 release cycle, there was no 4.5 as part of an openSUSE release. IMO all our repo names are imperfect, but renaming them creates a lot of aggravation, and we do it far too often already.
