Updating KMenu with Kappfinder does not work
Hi out there! I have SuSE 8.1, successfully updated to KDE 3.1.1 with the packages from kde.org. I tried to get some applications into KMenu with Kappfinder. The program runs, finds some uninstalled applications and offers them to be installed in Kmenu. I selected a few of them and exited Kappfinder. My Kmenu stays unchanged, none of the selected programs show up in the menu. Does Kappfinder work on a different menu than that one, KDE shows to me? This happens to 'normal' users as well as to root. Martin -- +++ GMX - Mail, Messaging & more http://www.gmx.net +++ Bitte lächeln! Fotogalerie online mit GMX ohne eigene Homepage!

curious, I just tried kappfinder for the first time after reading your mail (ran it from shell, not the menu). After looking at what it showed as available I placed checkmarks in some of the apps that weren't in my kmenu, then pressed apply, the apps were now in the kmenu as they should be. One possibility is that you may actually be running the "SuSEmenu" instead of the "kMenu" . If this is the case then your changes wouldn't be visible. To check this you can add a kMenu to your panel by right clicking on a blank area of the panel Add -->SpecialButton -->K Menu. If this doesn't work then I don't know what may be wrong. Martin, I have also noticed this behavior. Also, if do any menu editing of the programs already there, add a new one, change an icon, etc. it doesn't make the changes until I restart KDE anymore. This is using the standard Menu Editor to make the changes. Try right clicking on your menu button and start the menu editor, make some changes like an icon or program and see if the changes take place when you quit the menu editor. If not, restart KDE and notice if your changes are there. Just started for me after updating to 3.1 also and have not determined what the problem is. KDE ist caching it's menu for faster displaying. I don't kno whow long and where to configure this. I thought I saw it some time ago, but I cannot find it now. Waiting some minutes clears this cache and the new entries are appearing. Restarting kde clears the cache at once. Daniel Am Donnerstag, 27. März 2003 20:43 schrieb O'Smith:

I haven't tested this, but perhaps it is sufficient to restart kicker with
dcop kicker kicker restart
