[opensuse-kde] Kaddress book problem
Hello SuSE folk, Recently upgraded KDE to 3.5.7 release 35.1 on SuSE 10.2 You see an email address that you want to save. You right click on it and save to the address book. Then you can go back and edit it for information about that email address. I cannot add a name to an email address in KAddress book. I can add the address, telephone number etc but not the name. Here is the tricky part. That happens only when you select a "stand-alone" or "part-name" email address. e.g. kyle78@hotmail.com If you select one with only a first name attached,"part-name" kaddress book copies it with the first name attached and you cannot edit the name by adding a last name, e.g. bob <rnr@sanctity.com> If you select an email address with first and last names it will input it correctly and is editable. e.g. Bob Short <rshort@tampabay.rr.com> Very weird. Would someone try to do this and report back here? It may be a strange bug. I hope that I was able to describe this problem so it is understandable. If not, please question me and I will try again. Hi, Has this issue arrived after the upgrade? Before the upgrade things were working fine? I have KDE 3.5.7 release 43.1 on SuSE 10.1. I have no trouble editing the contact's name event if it was just the email added originally. In my setup I have selected the "Formated Name" column to be visible in Address Book, so I have to edit also what formatting to be used on the name in order to see it. How exactly are you trying to "add" the name? There is the "Edit Name" button and a text box right next to it for quick editing. Best regards -- Blade hails you... Who are you? Hi,
Has this issue arrived after the upgrade? Before the upgrade things were working fine?
Hello Boyan, Thanks for replying. This issue came up after upgrading from 3.5.5 to 3.5.7
I have KDE 3.5.7 release 43.1 on SuSE 10.1.
As stated in my original post, I have 3.5.7 release 35.1 on SuSE 10.2
I have no trouble editing the contact's name event if it was just the email added originally. In my setup I have selected the "Formated Name" column to be visible in Address Book, so I have to edit also what formatting to be used on the name in order to see it.
I was not sure what you were saying. But, after I had added an email only contact I would open the address book, The first (left) column is "Formatted Name The next column (right) is "Email Address".The new email appears at the top of the list under the "Email Address" column. There is nothing in the left "Formatted Name" column. (left side)
How exactly are you trying to "add" the name? There is the "Edit Name" button and a text box right next to it for quick editing.
To edit the email for a name I click on it to highlight it and choose File > Edit contact from the tool bar or right click on it to choose edit contact from the drop down menu. Either option brings up the "Edit Contact" dialogue where you are able to enter all kinds of info about the new email address. This is where it failed. I could add telephone numbers, street addresses, etc. but I could not add the name.
Aha! Thanks for making me investigate further. I would enter the name in the in the "Edit Name" box and it wouldn't apply. But, if you click on the "Edit Name" bar along side of it another dialogue box appears and at the bottom of that dialogue box there is another bar that allows you to choose the format. Mine was set to "Custom" and would not take. I chose "Full Name" and now it works. Too many steps and dialogue boxes. I will have to go through all of these steps for any address I input as it keeps reverting to "Custom". Problem solved but not happy about it. Thanks again and Regards to you also. Hi again, If you don't like to use a formated name, you can choose to display the Given and Family names in separate columns. That way you will only have to edit the name in the text box next to the "Edit name" button. To change your view, go to View -> Modify View and update the list of columns selected.
