When I try to open an OOo-Writer document directly from Kontact's KMail, I get the following message:
"/tmp/kde-<usr>/Letter name with spaces.doc_[AIN1nb].doc does not exist."
Only after saving it can the document be opened.
Are you clicking past the message with the attachment before OOo opens the tempfile where kmail saves the attachment? This causes kmail to delete the tempfile, ancient bugreport from me on this one here: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=39537
Are you using a recent kmail?
I'll reopen this if it turns out to still be a problem.

I have the same problem, and a workaround. Comments below.

NOT clicking past, just clicking on the attachement.

I'm using kmail from kdepim3-3.5.5-39
I'll reopen this if it turns out to still be a problem.

By choosing "Open with..." and entering "soffice" the attachment will open OK. Entering "oowriter" gives the error "File [...] not found".
OpenSUSE 10.2 OpenOffice_org-2.2-11.1
The workaround is thus to change the KDE file bindings to open office files with "soffice" instead of "oowriter" et al.
