[opensuse-kde] kde 4.x: how to add appölications starter menues to the panel?
Hi Folks, in KDE 3.x it was easily possible to add all menu items configured with kmenuedit to the panel as starting menues. In kde 4.x this has changed. I can only add so-called widgets to the panel. However, none of my menues I hvae configured with kmenuedit is a widget. For example I have had an eclispe starter menue, which has offered me three different eclipse versions. So how can I do this with KDE 4.x? 1. Open dolphin 2. In the address bar type in "applications:" (no quotes) 3. Navigate so you can see the folder you want. 4. Drag the folder to the panel 5. Make a folderview or shelf widget, depending on what you like better. You may have to set the icon manually. Making the folders in the application launcher be treated as folder on drag-and-drop would be a good idea, you can submit a wishlist item about in bugs.kde.org (although I doubt it will happen before the QML conversion). -Todd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

This works fine for single applications, but not folders which contain more applications. What is a folderview? So I don't understand what means: "Make a folderview" Best wishes Alexander -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Which version of KDE are you using? For the last few releases, if you follow my instructions, when you drop the folder on the panel you will get a menu (make sure you position your mouse to one side of the panel or between two other icons so you get see a dark box). Those options will include "Folder View", "Shelf", or "Icon". You want one of the first two. -Todd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

I am using version 4.6.2.

So I would need help for this version... Best wishes Alexander -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Hi Alexander, I would explore available widgets. Desktop context menu (right click) >> Add Widgets. Need for containers that will group often used items did not seize to exist with KDE4, so there is few useful widgets that you can add with drag and drop to the panel. For instance: Quicklaunch is hosting small application icons. It takes relatively little space in the panel and application launch with a single click is faster even then favorites tab in main menu. Quick Access offers view and access to the arbitrary folder. For your use case see how that works by pointing it to Desktop directory in your home. One that is meant to be on a desktop is Folder View. It is a widget and it will be covered with any window, so I don't find it very usable as a application launcher, but rather as a view to some often used directory. For all widgets mentioned above drag and drop from Main Menu to the widget works fine, so you will be able to populate widgets with custom application launchers that you create by simply dragging them to the widget. -- Regards, Rajko -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org
