Does anybody have an idea how to do this? I tried compiling the sources (the ones that came with SuSE 8.0 Pro) specifying --prefix=/opt/kde3, and it replaced the default KDE, but it screwed up all the SuSE customizations, like the menu, and the Yast2 button on the panel. I also compiled the kde-addon packages from the SuSE CD, but this didn't help. I also tried compiling the sources from www.kde.org, specifying --prefix=/opt/kde-3.0.4 and editing the relivant variables (I made a new user to try it out). Now KDE loads fine, and where, for example, the Yas2 menu icon should have been, is just a folder icon. Same goes for the other SuSE-KDE addons. It does run much faster though, which is why I want to do this. If I can get this right, I can upgrade my system to KDE 3.1 when that comes out. SuSE's KDE rpms I've tried (3.0.4 and 3.1 beta 2) mess up a little too, so that's not really an option. I'd like to compile without messing this up. Any ideas?
