[opensuse-kde] latest kde 3.5.10-54.2 has borked my X (I think)
I have lost it .... Just updated kde on SLED 10 to 3.5.10-54.2 and I now have no X. kdelibs3-3.5.10-54.2 There so no errors indicated in /var/log/XFree86.0.log. changing into runlevel 5 give the login screen which accepts the name and passwd but the menu items disappear and a blue screen remains with no further action. startx -- :0 also yields the trm gray screen but no term window is opened and mouse clicks provide nothing. Help.... -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

More info: linedrawing chars appear wrong in mc, had LANG=en_US.UFT-8 and changing to LANG=en_US corrected them. also trying to run /usr/bin/entrance give a lookup error for /usr/lib64/libefreet.so.1 undefined symbol: ecore_list_cb_set -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Ok, so you're not running KDE. did you select KDE as the starting session when you log in (left bottom on the login screen iirc)? The reason why it suddenly runns a different session is that the session name might have changed, so the previously selected KDE session is now called KDE 3.5.10 session (hence it falls back to some default apparently). Sorry, I *am* running kde normally. Entrance must have been enabled when I was experimenting with Enlightment.... KDE *is* selected as the starting sesssion on login.

Ok, that is weird. what does your ~/.dmrc contain? Thanks, Dirk -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Help....
Seems like something may have borked your displaymanager settings in /etc/sysconfig. Is there a reason you are using entrance rather than kdm? Have you tried startx from init 3? WINDOWMANAGER=fluxbox startx or from init 5 WINDOWMANAGER=fluxbox startx -- :1 replace fluxbox w/ twm or some other manager If another WM works then it will at least be another pointer to the kde update. (Conspiracey theory withheld for brevity) let us know what happens I've seen VERY similar errors trying to run xfce or enlightenment on ubuntu, never could get entrance to work nicely. Just *reinstalled* all *kde* apps upgraded in the last four days, but no change. :^( -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org
