It seems that the KDE folk upstream have made available a replacement for the desktop cube effect. I'm told it's at https://github.com/zzag/kwin-effects-cube.git, but building it for openSUSE is beyond my skills. Is there any chance that it might be packaged and distributed for Leap and Tumbleweed as an add-on?? -- Robin K Wellington "Harbour City" New Zealand

Hello Robin, at least for Tumbleweed it might work. But I do not give any guarantee. You can try it from here: https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/ecsos/openSUSE_Tumbleweed Then please give me feedback if it works. I have Tumbleweed only in a VM and if it works there I am not so sure. Regards Eric

Hi Eric. Thank you. Progress! I've applied it in Tumbleweed (on iron). Though I've yet to test it thoroughly, I'm happy to say that it works in Plasma (X11) but less well in Plasma (Wayland). The problem in Wayland is that after I invoke the toggle Ctrl-F11 and select a face of the cube, a right-click on the desktop does nothing at all - no menu or other response. X11 is OK in that regard; Wayland isn't. Other than that, is it correct to assume that the only way of invoking the cube is the Ctrl-F11 toggle? That is, where it was possible with the original to invoke cube animation simply by clicking on one of the faces in the pager, or by way of keyboard shortcut, that facility no longer exists? Appreciated, Robin -- Robin K Wellington "Harbour City" New Zealand

OK; just to follow up, I took the plunge and downloaded your .rpm and installed it in Leap 15.4 from a local folder with yast. And it worked, at least under X11 (I can't test it under Wayland because I've not been able to get Wayland to run in Leap 15.4 on this machine). The only difference I can see from the package under Tumbleweed is a different toggle key combination. Ctrl-F11 in TW; Meta-C in Leap. -- Robin K Wellington "Harbour City" New Zealand

Huh? And that works? The package does not actually build under Leap.

Meta+C it is according to the description. Regards Eric

Well; yes it works* under Leap 15.4. Or as well as it works anywhere. Being a little more familiar with it than I was at the first blush, I now see it's really only in demo mode without a great deal of utility. For example, there doesn't seem to be a way to activate select a given desktop face from the cube. That said, it's still pleasing to see a demo of what's possible, and its promise.... *Actually, the most recent update to Frameworks (I think) in 15.4 caused it to stop working. No sign of it in Desktop Effects in System Settings. But an update to your 1.0.0-10.2.x84_64 restored it. -- Robin K Wellington "Harbour City" New Zealand

I wonder if this really supports Wayland. I almost doubt it, because no libraries are needed from wayland. But I don't want to exclude it. As far as Wayland is concerned, it is with me under Leap like with pipewire. Both just don't really work. Maybe it would work with Tumbleweed. But not in Leap. Regards Eric
