[opensuse-kde] Akonadi Google connector - please, package new RPM
Hello, please, who packaged Akonadi Google connector? There were actually some changes and important bug fixes. Package was also renamed. See http://www.progdan.cz/category/akonadi-google/ and also my packaging wish https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=302183 (sorry, I'm not developer). Author of that software packaged some newer versions in OBS https://build.opensuse.org/project/packages?project=home%3Aprogdan but there are problems with building and he does not wish to spend a lot of time fixing it (he uses Fedora). Package akonadi-google available in repositories is not actual version, actually, it does not work at all... http://software.opensuse.org/package/akonadi-google It's necessary to package new version. There is also something, what looks like the new version http://software.opensuse.org/package/libkgoogle0 but it isn't actual. It will be native part of KDE PIM, KDE 4.9, but openSUSE 12.2 will be shipped with KDE 4.8. We need the package for openSUSE 11.4-12.2 and KDE 4.7-4.8. Please, could anyone take care about that? It will be done when it's needed. The Google resource will be part of kdepim-runtime in KDE 4.9. The akonadi-google and libkgoogle packages can't and won't be changed before 4.9 enters KDF, Christophe

According to this http://www.progdan.cz/2012/05/libkgoogle-libkgapi/ there is only a version 0.4.0 "which does not contain any other improvements or fixes" other than changing the library name and license (compared to 0.3.1) Akonadi Google 0.3.1 is already packaged in KDF and working so far (not only on my PCs) https://build.opensuse.org/package/show?package=akonadi- google&project=KDE%3ADistro%3AFactory Vojtěch, what version and bugfixes are you referring to? Since the library has been integrated into KDE 4.9, packaging newer versions separately will become more difficult and in this case you'd rather install the whole new KDE stack (once it is stable) as you do with okular etc... There is at least one fix, https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=301240 I'm not only user reporting this bug. ;-)
Vojtěch, what version and bugfixes are you referring to?
https://projects.kde.org/projects/kdereview/libkgoogle - version 0.4.1 https://projects.kde.org/news/150

It will be part of KDE 4.9, but what about KDE 4.7 and 4.8? Version 0.3.1 does not work, not only for me. There will probably be other updates, which will be then missing in KDE in openSUSE. Sorry my lack of knowledge, is there any problem with packaging of those newer versions for openSUSE 11.4-12.2 with KDE 4.7 and 4.8?
Nico

comment 3 and 4 briefly show the problems: you'd have to extract the parts being integrated into KDEPIM again which may not be that easy... https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=301240#c3 Dan currently provides a repo doing this but using the extract from kdepim- runtime not bound to a specific version though. I'd consider that experimental code. Thus I'd say it's like with the other KDE apps which receive bug fixes only in newer KDE releases... If the changelog is complete and 0.4.1 seems to fix only the mentioned three bugs which keep people from using it, it may be worth back-porting those patches for once at least. I'll have a look at the bugs and see what I can do. (I'm not quite sure about licensing though since it changed from GPL3 to GPL2 - is there a problem using the patch then?) But at some point you need to stop backporting though and migrate to the new version as this may be a non-trivial task with limited use for most people. Maybe you'll find someone willing to continue that task though.... -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

It is not only problem of new users. From my experience, Akonadi Google from time to time tries to "reauthenticate"... :-/

Hm. :-( I understand why, but for not technically skilled people, it can be difficult.

yes - for non-technical people this comes down to: standalone lib is not maintained anymore, so they have to use the integrated one in future

I back-ported all changes happening between 0.4.0 and 0.4.1 and the package is currently building in https://build.opensuse.org/package/show?package=akonadi- google&project=home%3ANicoK%3Abranches%3AKDE%3ADistro%3AFactory Could you please test that package once it has been built? I created a submitrequest for it, see https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/125609 If accepted (iirc, Tuesday and Friday are days to process all such requests), it can be propagated into KR48 etc. This is triggered manually afaik and I hope that the maintainers read this thread and will pick this up accordingly. You may need to poke them if this doesn't happen in time...
