Ok, after a lot of trouble I managed to get my users working. Deleting the .kde directory does not seem to be necessary, however, the whole bunch of .x-files in the home directory need to be erased. For those having the same problem: that's the solution. And now I can enjoy my kde 3.2.1.. Regards, Udo

Shot in the dark: try creating a new user. Then a new home directory would be created too, with (hopefully) correct .x-files.
And now I can enjoy my kde 3.2.1..
