And there won't be a KDE5, ever.
How about this on the news.opensuse page to add to the confusion
"KDE Plasma has update 15.04.3, which include Long Term Support versions of Plasma Workspaces 4.11.21. "
How is this related? Do you see anything about "KDE 5" there? ;-)
Its just the proliferation software sub-groups and version numbers causing the confusion.
They probably just copied that verbatim from the KDE Applications release announcement: https://www.kde.org/announcements/announce-applications-15.04.3.php "This release also includes Long Term Support versions of Plasma Workspaces 4.11.21, KDE Development Platform 4.14.10 and the Kontact Suite 4.14.10." and appended it in an unfortunate way to the news entry (I agree with that).
And this is even incorrect. It was not KDE Plasma that "has update to 15.04.3". It was KDE Applications that got updated to 15.04.3.
Does that mean the person making the announcement is also confused with all the various software groups and version numbers? :o)
But it's true that KDE Applictions 15,.04.3 included "Plasma Workspaces 4.11.21", i.e. version 4.11.21 of the KDE4 desktop, and it is available in Tumbleweed too (package kdebase4-workspace).
4.11.22 (included in 15.08.0) was the *final* release though, and there haven't been any real changes since February or so... (4.11.22 only contains a fix for KDM, that is already part of the openSUSE package since December)
For those of us not in the development arena and rely on announcements, it gets confusing when you get a confusing amount of software groups all with different version numbers.
So "KDE4" (the desktop) is now officially "dead".
Yes, so it is. but calling it KDE 5.x would be better for us ordinary users on the sidelines than KDE Plasma 5.x with KDE applications 15.x with Plasma Workspaces 4.x My personal opinion is that all the sub-grouping is more relevant and meaningful to the developers than the users.
Kind Regards, Wolfgang
