Hi, This is a rather trivial question but I am not able to find a way to this I use the open dialog but I cannot file where those files are loaded on the system. With 8.2 I used media/cdrecorder to get to them but with 9.1 it seems to be at in a different spot that I cannot find? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks. For me I enter /dev/cdrom or /dev/hdc (the cdrom device) and it reads the cd. Have you got the Playlist window open as it seems to load the list and not start playing until you press play again! Alternatively you could use konqueror. Open up a konqueror window (either type will work) and enter the following url "audiocd:/" This will then show the contents of the drive in many different formats (they are not actually on the drive but konq rips then according to the type when you select it. right click on an ogg or wav or mp3 and select the program to play it - xmms or noatun, kaboodle etc. A final alternative is to use kscd it is a cd player. Hi Andrew, My response is inline --- Andrew Colvin <apc@abcj.demon.co.uk> a écrit :

It does not for me...
Have you got the Playlist window open as it seems to load the list and not start playing until you press play again!
Nothing is visible there
Alternatively you could use konqueror.
I tried that but when I select xmms the open dialog appears and it is exactly the place where I cannot get to the files
A final alternative is to use kscd it is a cd player.
Yes, that is what I am using I just wanted to try something different. I think xmms is better or at least it sounded better in 8.2 Thanks for the tips I will continue trying. George
Hope this helps Andrew
Hi,
I have an audio plug in and it is configured and pointing to the cd....but still I cannot get any songs on the list and play something.
The settings read Device: /dev/cdrom Directory: /mnt/cdrom
The input plug in is: libncdaudio.so output is: libarts.so
When I click on the Play button the select dialog opens and I look for /dev/cdrom which appears to be a file button once selected and clicking play nothing happens...
any ideas...???
thanks very much george

Go to options ( right click - options - preferences) and make sure that you have a cd audio i/o plugin and configure it to make sure it points to your cd drive.
I have the same problem. I have libcdaudio. so installed. The config points to /dev/hdc , my dvd drive. I open XMMS , click on " play location" , put in /dev/hdc, but no luck. Any more suggesstions? Hi,
This is a rather trivial question but I am not able to find a way to this I use the open dialog but I cannot file where those files are loaded on the system. With 8.2 I used media/cdrecorder to get to them but with 9.1 it seems to be at in a different spot that I cannot find?
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks. George
If your using a standard SuSE 9.1 install then you're also using the submount program. When you attach removable media to your system the submount program will TRY to recognize the media for what it is and automatically mount it at a permanent location. The name of the mount point depends of the type of removable media, e.g. /media/cdrecorder /media/ieee1394_sbp2 /media/usb-storage-odd-Sony After you insert the audio CD and the drive spins up, from the CLI run mount. What do you see? Did submount try to mount the audio CD? Very often this happens to me. Even though audio CDs contain no file system, submount often tries to mount the audio CD. I have to su to root and unmount the audio CD, wait a moment for the system to update, then try xmms again. Submount is such a pain. Take a took at /var/log/messages when you insert the audio CD. Taken from Submount src rpm: Submount is a system for automatically mounting and unmounting removable media drives like CD-ROMs and floppy disk drives. Once installed, it allows removable media drives to be accessed as if they were permanently mounted. Example line for a CD-ROM drive in /etc/fstab: /dev/cdrom /media/cdrom subfs fs=cdfss,ro 0 0 Example line for a floppy drive in /etc/fstab: /dev/floppy /media/floppy subfs fs=floppyfss, sync HTH Chris Shanahan
