Version 4.4.5 of the Qt Python IDE Eric has been released. The most recent version on the openSUSE repositories is 4.4.2, which was released in March. There is also a 5.0.0 release candidate. Maybe 4.4.5 can go in the KDE4:desktop and backports repository and 5.0.0 can go in KDE4:playground. Currently, at least in openSUSE 11.2, the KDE4:desktop repositories have 4.3.6, which was released in august, while the backports and KDE4:playground repositories have the more recent stable 4.4.2 version. It was at least my impression that KDE4:desktop and backports would normally have the same version of packages while playground would only have unstable packages.

I have already tried to package 5.0.0, but unfortunately this one requires Python 3.0 which is not yet in any official repo. So I abanded this build. However I will package 4.4.5 in Community. It is to late in the release cycle for openSUSE 11.3 to have it moved to KDE4:desktop and backports. This will be done after 11.3 is released. Python 3.0 (or actually 3.1, which Eric5 requires) is in the python3 package which, at least for opensSuse 11.2, is in the openSUSE:11.2/standard repository. It provides a separate python3 binary so as not to interfere with python 2.x (which is the default version for openSUSE). This allows both python 2.x and 3.x to be installed at the same time. Eric5 also requires qscintilla 2.4, which is in the standard repo for 11.2, and python-qt4 4.7, which is in the KDE repos. -Todd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Todd, if you want to try to package those things then just join #opensuse- buildservice or #opensuse-kde and people will gladly give you a hand. Point just being that it often isn't that easy as it looks. Also, while you do a great job highlighting the new versions, we certainly would love to get someone more people who gets their hands down and dirty to package the latest and greatest. Point just being that currently N folks are busy with stabilizing 11.3 and titti does a great job packaging everything that isn't on the tree on 3. Nevertheless we still would love to see some more people getting involved in packaging which certainly isn't very hard to do (at least for a version update). So, if you and others want the newest versions or the latest and greatest then please be so kind to invest some time to learn how to do it (again, version updates take < 5 minutes normally) and help out with it where you see it). How to do that is explained at http://en.opensuse.org/Build_Service/Collaboration and if you have any questions then #opensuse-buildservice is the place to go. Note that I certainly am not targeting you personally but with a few hundreds of users and only a handful contributing (packages) there is a certain imbalance which needs to be fixed. So, please give it a thought and also a try and if you run into any issues just ask on IRC. thanks, Stephan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org
