It looks like a packaging bug to me: The only available version of libstdc++ is libstdc++;3.2-44;i586;base which provides: 8.1-i386/RPMS.base $ rpm -qp --provides libstdc++-3.2-44.i586.rpm gppshare libstdc++.so.5 libstdc++.so.5(CXXABI_1.2) libstdc++.so.5(GLIBCPP_3.2) libstdc++.so.5(libstdc++.so.5) libstdc++.so.5(GLIBCPP_3.2.2) is not provided. You better report this to suse. -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless
I have also tried updating using synaptic to 3.1.5 and also have run into problems. Some programs install and other don't.This has not ever happened with previous updates of KDE. John Satherley On Saturday 17 January 2004 00:35, David Herman wrote:

Well, the packages are linked against the wrong (a newer) glibc library. I think they were built on the wrong system there at suse. You cannot easily overcome this. Please don't even think of upgrading your glibc. This would render your whole system useless like a broken toaster. To be exact: KDE 3.1.5 would run after that, but all other programs (filesystem, daemons, X11, simply everything) would not run anymore, so you could never start KDE because you cannot boot up your system. So I think the "easiest" solution would be to grab the src.rpm's and rebuild with rpm --rebuild. Greets, Daniel

Thanks Daniel, maybe I'll give that a go, on the other hand by the time I actually get around to it 3.2 may be here.
