[opensuse-kde] kdmrc location
Anyone know why kdmrc isn't conforming to FHS[1] by living in /etc somewhere? That's where Fedora and *buntu put it. http://refspecs.linuxfoundation.org/FHS_2.3/fhs-2.3.html#ETCHOSTSPECIFICSYST... -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." It's FHS normal place are in /usr/share bla ... then if you want to adjust one system you can override that default by placing under the /etc/ Same apply for example for systemd -- Bruno Friedmann Ioda-Net Sàrl www.ioda-net.ch openSUSE Member & Ambassador GPG KEY : D5C9B751C4653227 irc: tigerfoot -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

That's not how I read the spec, and apparently Fedora and Canonical don't either.

Why should an operational global config file location change if it's been modified from that contained in the source rpm? /usr/share would seem to be a place to find an initial version or prototype, but not the operational version. How are people supposed to back up efficiently when global config files are scattered throughout a little changing but complex directory tree? -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." okay let me repeat what you already find /usr / should contain default untouched version of operational files. And yes in our case openSUSE, the bug is system-settings or yast are modifying this version, where they should copy & modify a new version in /etc -- Bruno Friedmann Ioda-Net Sàrl www.ioda-net.ch openSUSE Member & Ambassador GPG KEY : D5C9B751C4653227 irc: tigerfoot -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

I thought I had already looked for this in Bugzilla and found nothing, but if I did it was more than 18 months ago: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=651897 Sorry for the noise. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive."
