[opensuse-kde] Cannot add self created program menues to panel
Hi Folks, I have instaleld openSuSE 21.1 64-Bit, and I am using KDE for my work. My current KDE realease is: Plattform-Version 4.7.2 (4.7.2) "release 5" If I try to add a program menu either self created with kmenuedit or an already available menu (e.g. multimedia) going over... Kickoff application launcher -> applications -> multimedia so it should be possible to add the multimedia menu to to the panel by clicking on the right mouse button and selecting "add to panel". However, the menu entry is not added to the panel, the whole applcations are added to the panel. Any hints or ideas? good idea, wrong path :^) unlock-widgets -> <rt-clk><panel> -> panel-options -> add-widget -> application launcher see if that works. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

I *think* what op wanted is to add the full multimedia menu to the panel. It looks like it possible, because you can right click on it and there is an option to add it to panel or desktop, however it is not working. The icon is appearing on the panel, but when you click on it you get "applications: is a folder, but a file was expected." message. http://picpaste.com/multimedia-to-panel-LdYIePZO.png I might be wrong. -- gpe -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

Exactly that's it! I admit, my headline is missleading, and this was because I am used to customize my KDE by creating own program menues and adding them to the panel. This feature worked fine in KDE 4.5.3. How I can I get this working? Will Stephenson added this feature to KDE4.x some time ago: http://blogs.kde.org/node/4054 I'm not sure if the patch was ever accepted upstream or if it was opensuse specific - but I'm quite sure that feature wasn't available on kde sc 4.6 either. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

I thought it was merged upstream, but doesn't seem to work any more and is still on my list to figure out why and adapt for current KDE and resubmit. Hi Folks, as it turned out in a thread around Feb 20th this year, it is not possible to add any widgets to the KDE panel in a KDE version 4.7.x. I hvae created a bug report on that, but nothing has happened. Unfortunately I have removed by mistake my "Kickoff Application Launcher" from my panel, and what should I say: I cannot add it to my panel again via "add widget". By trying this I have found out that it is impossible to add any widget to the panel via add widgets; it's simpöly impossible. So the bug is even worse then I have reported. Until yesterday I though it is only not possible to add menus to the panel, you cannot add anything to the panel, the panel can only be modified by removing something, but not by adding something. However, I have found a workaround. I have added a new panel to my display, and this panel contains the application launcher. But frankly said, I only want to have ONE panel, not two! Okay, that's as it is. I would be able to get rid of my problems, if I would know where the panel config files are located, the config file of the default panel, and the config file of my changed panel. I am quite sure to add some changes here, so that the panel appears as I want to have it. Of course only if such config files are existent. Can anyone help me? Dragging a widget from the widget explorer to the panel works just fine for me with 4.7.2 on 12.1. Clearly not a general issue.
