Hi I have SLES10 installed , it has juk mulimedia player and kopete IM client. My problem is (1) Juk player not playing mp3 files (2) kopete is not connecting any account . I understand Juk uses some back ends , but whenever i try to play mp3 files by using juk , the play status bar moves very quickly and ends with in 2 seconds . With kopete , i created my accounts , but it own't connect any of my accounts . I have defined my proxy information in konqueror , but still it own't connect. Please , anyone give suggestions to resolve this problem ? Thanks Shashi Kanth

simple enough: don't use SLES. SLES = suse linux enterprise SERVER. not intended for desktop use. now, in case you meant to type SLED which is in fact for desktop use, it has the same problems as suse linux since quite a few years, which is that they ship without MP3 support because they're afraid of some patent issues around the MP3 codec. If you'd installed suse linux 10.0 or 10.1 instead of SLED10 you could just use the packman repository and get mp3 support, and use the kde buildtree repository and get kde 3.5.5 which contains a version of kopete that DOES work with ICQ, even after they changed their protocol again to get rid of 3rd party clients. But with SLED10, using any unofficial installation sources would most likely void your maintenance contract... bye, MH -- Die unaufgeforderte Zusendung einer Werbemail an Privatleute verstößt gegen §1 UWG und §823 I BGB (Beschluß des LG Berlin vom 2.8.1998 Az: 16 O 201/98). I am agree with you , but all these years , i am using SLES as desktop product. This allows me to learn server applications as well as using that OS as desktop by installing missing desktop applications like office, messenger, music/movie players. But with SLES10, most of the desktop unpopular applications are present. So, instead of installing missing popular desktop applications, i want to use existing unpopular applications for desktop purpose. So , in this regard, i am experiencing some issues with kopete messenger and juk .

sashi, You still should be able to use your SLES, because as far as I know, it's the same linux with missing parts to do what you need. You should still visit Packman for the revised files needed to play mp3 tunes. That, as Mathias mentioned, is missing in your install of SUSE. You may even be able to just recompile the programs you want to play these files to get them working. For Kopete, I'm not sure what is missing there. Kopete should just work, if you have the accounts setup for the various IM services. I would guess it's just something you've missed or failed to do for it. Are you able to use the system to get on the internet? bye, Lee

Here are a list of proxy bugs in Kopete. Can you have a look at them and add yourself if any of them correspond. Otherwise, report a new bug and mention what kind of proxy setup you are using (socks, http, ...). Need to use common SOCKS5 proxy server settings http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=62520 Kopete: MSN slow login with proxy http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=133271 Proxy HTTP does not work http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=135331 HTH Will

Thanks Will Stephenson for understanding the problem and giving right suggestion on this. Well, the above mentioned URL specified that kopete will not work with HTTP proxy , and this is a bug which is fixed now . But i am not understanding, as SLES10/SLES10 contains latest version KDE and GNOME , why those fixed patches still not applied to kopete in SLES10/SLED10 ? . If this is bug where Novell already know about it , then why Novell still not released patch for this ?

SLE?10 was released with the newest KDE available when it went into beta, and contains all the available packages. The problem is in the main Kopete codebase. MSN over HTTP should work. 116391 is marked as fixed, but only relates to MSN. The other protocols don't support it, as you can read in the BR. If you need support for other proxies, feel free to reopen the bug or post a new one with additional details. Will

Have you yet performed any YOU updates on that machine? Might it be possible that there are indeed some security/bug updates that would fix kopete for you? Have you taken a look at updating your KDE files from one of SUSE's mirrors to acquire a newer build of kopete to eliminate the problem? I believe you'll find the kopete program to be contained in the kdenetwork3-InstantMessenger rpm file. bye, Lee

This is not true, SLED ships with mp3 support just like 10.1 does, through Helix. Both banshee and amarok can use it out of the box to play mp3s
