[opensuse-kde] Important notice for KDE:Unstable:Playground packagers
Hi, Over the last months / years, some packages have been abandoned in KDE:Unstable:Playground. The direct consequence is that repositories take longer to get published. During the last 6 months, I've taken over the maintenance of around 60 packages in this repositories but there are some I simply don't want or cannot maintain. As a consequence, the repository will be cleared soon if no action is taken for the following packages. I have isolated 4 categories : - Obsolete svn/git snapshots or versions - Dead projects (no news from upstream of features now included in the KDE SC modules) - Candidates for KDE:Extra. This one means the package in KUP doesn't enter in the "Unstable" category, - Unknown status, for packages in the repo for apparently no reason. If you're the maintainer of one of the following packages, please take the appropriate action. The repository cleanup with begin in 7-10 days. - Living packages but obsolete in K:U:P: * gluon (last update: 5 months ago) * kdegames4-extra (last update: 8 months ago) * scribus-unstable (last update: 8 months ago) - Seemingly dead projects: * kitchensync, * krecipes (no news since 2.0-beta2 in november), * nepomuk-playground-backupsync, * plasmate (0.1alpha2 package from 18 months ago), * print-manager (probably useless in KDE >4.6) * plasmaconfig2 (is it useful for anything?) * tristan - Candidates for KDE:Extra: * kparts-plugin * kssh * ktikz * marave * plasmoid-gmailnotifier (last update: 13 months ago) * plasmoid-yasp-scripted * plasmoid-yawp * psi * qxv * simon - Unknown status: * libopensync-plugin-kdepim * libopensync-plugin-akonadi

* kdegames4-extra (last update: 8 months ago) I think this is, by definition, unstable and unmaintained games, right?
- Seemingly dead projects: * kitchensync, I think other sync solutions are in development
* krecipes (no news since 2.0-beta2 in november), This is pretty usable as-is and there isn't a real alternative available, so I would keep this. I personally use it a lot still.
* nepomuk-playground-backupsync, Hasn't this been integrated upstream already?
* plasmate (0.1alpha2 package from 18 months ago), This is being actively developed in KDE:Active. I would remove this version then figure out how to distribute the upstream version once plasma active 1 is released.
* print-manager (probably useless in KDE >4.6) Agreed
- Candidates for KDE:Extra: * kparts-plugin Does this work at all? I never had much luck with it.
* plasmoid-gmailnotifier (last update: 13 months ago) Is this needed? And aren't there scripted versions of this?
* plasmoid-yawp This is already in KDE:Extra
* simon Until they actually getting around to making a real release I think it should stay where it is. There is apparently lots of upstream development, but it has been over a year since an actual release. It should probably track the svn version rather than the official releases.

Calligra is left un-updated. My bug report has so far gotten no attention: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=716516 If possible, maybe the Playground package can be modified to get automatic weekly git snapshots as the final version of Calligra 2.4 is just around the corner and that one is Extra material then. Hopefully when 2.4 is released it will go into KDF rather than Extra. KOffice doesn't seem to be making anywhere near as much progress (which makes sense given its much smaller development community). -Todd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Well, users of openSUSE 12.1 should be able to get Calligra without relying on KDF. So yeah, for 12.2 in the main repo but for 12.1 in Extra. Or did I understand the structure wrong? Btw, I tried to package Calligra 2.3.81 (current beta) by myself but I got countless error messages from the web interface.

Calling one person a community is probably bragging. ;-) I asked on koffice-devel when a 2.4 release is to be expected. Currently there are not even alpha releases so it should be left out from KUP for now. So far no reply. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Usually such updated packages go into KDE:UpdatedApps

KDE:Active has working 2.3.80 packages. You can probably base it on those.

There are a few more than just one, but certainly not many.

Unforunately the developers have not been very open about their plans, not to mention their progress so far, inlike the calligra developers who have been quite talkative. Looking at the git logs it mostly looks like renaming and removing things lately, but not much in the way of user-visible changes. -Todd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Well, Beta 2 is just around the corner (tagging next week if I understood calligra-devel correctly), so better directly skip to that. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Did somebody already do this? I didn't think we had come to a decision on what would stay and what would go. If I had know it was going to be deleted I would have made a copy of krecipes in my own repo. Is there any way to get it back so I can do so? Next time, if there is a discussion like this about what should stay and what should go, please provide a final list a few days before you go ahead with the deletion so people have a chance to rescue any packages they might want to keep. -Todd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org
