Hello, below a list of packages currently assigned to kde-maintainers@suse.de which - if I made no mistake - are not required by any product pattern. They IMHO do not have to be part of the core distro and could be maintained by someone in Contrib repository[1], KDE:Community repositories or dropped without pain. These three should probably be associated with some sort of development pattern. Heyhey, well the quality range on this list is pretty wide, I'd recommend trying to figure out which are still active (more or less) and move these to Contrib, the other ones just mark as unmaintained and into kde:community or even kde3:unmaintained or similar, they will propably keep building fine as kde3 isn't doing any big changes. If an unmaintained one breaks just drop it unless somebody steps forward, as hard as it sounds but beeing a community project everybody who requires it is free to maintain. Still the better ones like kmymoney should be kept at least in contrib so they are in quick reach without adding a kde build service repository. No, we currently have no plans to drop basic runtime environment for KDE3 applications (that is, kdelibs3 + kdebase3-runtime). This is not specifically about KDE3 or KDE4 version - though I admitted didn't examine everything starting with kde4- (on the other side ksystemlog slipped into the list despite it being built from kdeadmin4 source package :-). Those apps can IMO enter Contrib as KDE3 versions and be updated to stable KDE4 version when available and before openSUSE/Contrib's release freeze. But some... 1. kinternet - Is still needed for people with dialup/ISDN/DSL-Modems ... could in my opinion even be better integrated. Is there any KDE4 Version planned ? If yes it should definitely not been dropped and if no there should be work on an easy to use replacement. 2. klamav - as a GUI for clamav it is requested by a lot of end users . They are anxious and want to have an Antivirussolution which they can operate from the GUI. 3. kmymoney - Is included into Packman f.e - so it could go to contrib or Packman but if this could be coordinated this would be fine. Moved to contrib maybe - if anybody wants to maintain them - but several of them certainly can't be dropped without pain. Good evening everybody, as talked about in today's kde meeting and to bring that issue ahead I tried to gather information about the state of the packages: http://en.opensuse.org/KDE/Community/kde3_eval I tried to be as thorough as possible, mistakes are possible of course =) Please reply with suggestions, critic etc. and feel free to fix and modify the wiki page. What to do about the packages? Well if there is no kde4 port worked on, or at least concrete plans, the chances are pretty slim that there will be a kde4 port at all. In that case the activity and notes is a good indicator whether there is actual work or usage at all. Some packages are clear drop candidates in my opinion, but well I guess others should decide that. Hi Karsten Thanks for list of apps, they were already some discussions what to do with these packages. Well if it's garbage (e.g. 2 years unmaintained) it's clear, drop it without moving to contrib or kde:community. But what with other stuff on list ? I think if it compiles moving to community is enough, it's not lost that way and people can easily take over maintainership if they want it, otherwise let it rot till it doesn't compile anymore (or decide in a general community cleanup movement).

That's how I understood it as well, I'd suggest moving most kde3 apps without port into contrib as long as they are usable, no alternative exists (ex. KInternet @Stefan Kunze) and they keep building

Depends on the quality as well I think, same requirements should apply here as well. There are a lot of plasmoids which don't qualify qualitywise for contrib for example. I would suggest making the layout a bit more compact to make it easier to read. The URL can be just a single clickable character, so it wouldn't take so much space, and the 'requires' column is IMHO rather unimportant and could go last.

I actually used a 'spreadsheet to wiki tables' converter as I am a loser with wiki layouts, I'll try to modify it. I think the requires
