Hello Harry, this is because of patch #8 "arts-start-on-demand.diff" in arts. But actually this patch should not be aktiv for SuSE 9.3 . So, download the arts.src from http://software.opensuse.org/download/KDE:/KDE3/SUSE_Linux_9.3/src/ install the src as root with rpm -i arts-1.5.3-5.2.src.rpm Then edit the /usr/src/packages/SPECS/arts.spec this way ... Change the Release from 5.2 to, let´s say, 5.5 Remove the Line Remove the Line <%patch8> Save and exit Then rebuild the package with rpmbuild -bb /usr/src/packages/SPECS/arts.spec after building, upgrade the new packages with rpm -Uhv /usr/src/packages/RPMS/i586/arts* This should solve your Prob for now, but take care by this version at the next KDE upgrade ;-) Greets Michael aRts starts in multiple instances https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=178930
