Tried with gstreamer backend? Or if you can try with KDF libphonon and vlc- backend?
Because of what you wrote in http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-kde/2013-08/msg00014.html I only ever installed phonon-backend-vlc. In all my installations I keep solver.onlyRequires = true, so install, and thus update, only what's necessary according to the packages I choose to install.
Audio CD playing was broken with vlc backend, but should[1] be fixed now.

That was marked fixed nearly 4 months ago? How is it that this remains a problem in both 12.3 and 13.1 but not in Mageia 3 released in May? Most of this is moot. I only cared about KSCD in order to bring https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=120533 up to date. As for making sound work, I should be good if only VLC, SMPlayer2 and Kdenlive make sound. I prefer my puters to be quiet unless using an app whose primary purpose is making sound or video with sound. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive."
