As an aside,
Having reverted to mozilla in the mean time I\have noticed that buttons on web pages dont work now..........for instance, on the Google page entering a search wont work when the "Google Search" button is clicked.
Very strange.............wish I hadnt bothered with Ximian now!!!!!

Jim, I wish I had more to offer for a fix. You could try creating a new user to see if that setup has the same problems. If not, then there are some settings files on your present user that has gotten corrupted. If the same things happen that happens now to the new user, my guess is that KDE has gotten corrupted somewhere and nothing short of a new install will fix your problem. Or at the very least, a new install of the KDE components. Also, try this, rename your $HOME/.kde directory, with the period, to .kde.old or something and restart KDE. That will recreate a new .kde with all new settings, but it will tell you if your present settings are bad. Also you have two files .MCOPserver and .DCOPserver that could be bad, rename or eliminate those in your home directory.
Your experience certainly bolsters my bad opinion of Ximian. I don't see good things happening with that interface and am very glad that SuSE chose KDE to help support.
