Hi guys,
I'm sorry for not attending yesterdays meeting but after some talk in -kde I realized you want to replace KDE:KDE4:Playground with something like KDE:Unstable:Playground.
Martin has already explained this well, I just want to stress two points.
IMHO that is plain wrong for two reasons:
1. The URL implies some association with :Unstable which is just wrong. 2. It is simply under the wrong namespace.
It is under the right namespace. Playground is unstable, therefore it is correctly placed under KDE:Unstable. SC is also unstable, therefore it is placed under KDE:Unstable. If new KDEPIM will get a separate project, it will be KDE:Unstable:kdepimwhatever. The only wrong associations may be because of history, when you remember that the SC repo used to be called 'UNSTABLE'.
We created "KDE:Extra" for "community" maintained packages and the stuff in
:Playground is either a SVN snapshot from :Extra or :Distro:Factory. But : still
it is _only_ community maintained!
IMHO the :Playground stuff should therefore be under a namespace that makes it explicitly clear that those packages are _only_ community maintained.
And this is another reason why the rename has been done - to get rid of the obsolete notion of "community maintained". This maybe had a place in the past, but openSUSE has been moving towards being a full community distro and there is not supposed to be any "us" vs "them". Novell people are now also part of the openSUSE community, and although for historical and inertia reasons e.g. KDE:Distro repos are handled mainly by Novell people, that's not a requirement and it may not be so in a year. KDE:Extra does not mean "community packages" or "packages done by the others". It means "additional packages that are not in openSUSE distribution". And BTW, there are packages maintained by me in Extra and Playground too. -- Lubos Lunak openSUSE Boosters team, KDE developer l.lunak@suse.cz , l.lunak@kde.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org
