Because of what you wrote in http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-kde/2013-08/msg00014.html I only ever installed phonon-backend-vlc. In all my installations I keep solver.onlyRequires = true, so install, and thus update, only what's necessary according to the packages I choose to install.
That is no longer the case... gstreamer backend should now be fully functional.
And? How many audio backends should anyone need, particularly someone like me trying to keep an installation lean?
That was marked fixed nearly 4 months ago? How is it that this remains a problem in both 12.3 and 13.1 but not in Mageia 3 released in May?
Have you validated you where using the same backend as on Mageia? AFAIK, they
No.
also utilize udisks2, so there should be no difference in that regard.
I really don't care if KSCD works. I only tried because of that old KDE bug that needed updating. But if there's something I can do to help get it reliably working for other openSUSE KDE users I'll try to do it.
Unfortunately, i can't test this issue on my main machine, with latest phonon- vlc, as KSCD does not want to play CD's from my USB drive, but i did confirm *it does work* on a 12.3 + KDF + gstreamer backend machine.
Not only am I trying to keep systems lean, but I'm also trying to keep them free of Gnome clutter. They're all systems used with KDE mainly, a negligible few with other DEs, but none with any more of Gnome than whatever parts of it others are dependent on (thinking LXDE and/or XFCE here). Any time I'm given a choice of ways to fulfill a dependency when installing something new, my last choice is anything starting with a "g", since more often than not anything so beginning has roots in Gnome if not designed expressly or exclusively for Gnome. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive."
