Have you heard about this Akonadi thing the KDEPIMsters are working on and the porting of all the PIM apps to this framework?
Which among other things means that in the immediate future (=KDE SC 4.6) you'll prolly have even more fundamental things to worry about.
But also means that your e-mail should become searchable via nepomuk in the near future, but I wouldn't count on it to be 100% smooth and reliable in 4.6.0 if I were you.
And if it doesn't shake out I'll ship kdepim4[-runtime] 4.4.x in 11.4 (again). FWIW I think IMAP tags are a better solution than links in a single machine's filesystem.
