I got send a .pptx File
The System (Opensuse 13.1 with KDE Current ) tried to open it with Okular.
If it is dolphin/konqueror then it is becuase you have it configured that way.
On my system (13.1/KDE 4.11.5), Okular is also the default app associated with .pptx. I tried all the .pptx files on my system (12), and everyone of them crashed Okular on startup.
I think the more import issue is why do you have your system configured so that it even tries to use okular on pptx. Got to systemsettings -> file associations and ut "ppt" in the search bar and look at what the associations are for the various variations of powerpoint files. Heck, do you even have Libreoffice, Openoffice or Callibra installed? And what release/updates of openSuse, KDE and Okular are you running?
However I found this blog post, and one of the commenters claims Okular does open pptx for him: http://tsdgeos.blogspot.dk/2012/01/okular-014-released.html
I wonder if some buildtime/runtime dependency for Okular is missing on openSUSE?
And what version of Okular are you running? The page at http://okular.kde.org/formats.php shows what types of files can be handled and what operations can be carried out on them. As the man pages says, you can consult the online manua with help:/okular in the search bar or Dolphin or Konqueror I can see no mention whatsoever in any of these sources of Okular being able to handle MS-office documents such as powerpoint, be it compressed or not.
This is exactly one of those little polish issues, which have a pretty big impact on the user experience, and which are probably fairly easy to fix.
Indeed, and I wonder why you persist in trying to get okular to handle powerpoint when "the rst of us" seem to find out configurations specifying LibreOffice?
I once made a collection of the 20-30 most common file types, and checked what happened when simply clicking each of them in KDE on every openSUSE beta - actually quite often the mime-type associations are pretty bad, meaning that supported file types don't open, or open in undesirable apps. Maybe I should start doing that again when testing 13.2.
I'm wondering if you started out with some alpha/beta release that had these oddball configurations and somehow they were never updated with the setting that those of us who did a straight forward install have. Really: do you have LibreOffice installed? My take, and I may be incorrect, is that when a package such as LibreOffice is installed, the mime settings are updated to deal with the capability it now offers. -- Undoubtedly a man is to labor to better his condition, but first to better himself. -- William Ellery Channing -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org
