I believe your observation makes a lot of sense. My interpretation to that is that every generation brings in more features/bugs to be ruled out when using the infrastructure of the new major version. Lets face it, the need for a new major version is because a major change is imminent in the core functionality or behavior. I also think that another reason why it always takes even a longer time frame to stabilize is due to an increase in the userbase of that platform. Regarding the original poster of the thread, I don't see why he shouldn't keep on using KDE 3.5. Seems like he is not interested in new features but just in bug fixes. The choice is his, and not that of the linux distributor. With the same argument I used to still use Firefox 1.5 during the Firefox 2.0 release. I believe that the option of repositories for KDE3 is adequate enough to keep him going for many more cycles. On Thu, Jul 16, 2009 at 11:58 AM, Mathias Homann<admin@eregion.de> wrote:

I've tried, really, to use this "thing", but no, definitely, it's not possible.
Please tell us which version of KDE4 you have tried!
There is a big improvement with 4.2.x(4) and I'm using already 4.3
a rather worrying fact that i noticed with ALL releases of KDE so far: it's not really usable until the release reaches a minor version that is at least equal the major version... KDE1 was goot after 1.1 KDE2 took untiol 2.2 to be usable KDE3 was good after KDE 3.3, rock solid after 3.5 KDE4 will be rock solid when? 4.4.1?
