Hello, list members, I recently attended a presentation of SLES/SLED 10 by Novell in their Brussels offices. I was impressed by the improvements and duly noted that SLED 10 was based off the OpenSuSE codebase. One thing I couldn't help noticing, though, and that was confirmed to me by the presenter, is the shift in focus firmly away from KDE towards Gnome (to the point the SLES 10, the server edition, is said to not offer KDE at all). I'm a long-time fan of both KDE and SuSE (since version 6.x !) and I always regarded SuSE as having the best KDE integration on the market. I'm still running 9.3 on all my machines (home and work), but would be glad to have a nice upgrade path. My question to you guys (and gals ?) are: - can I expect the same level of integration of KDE in the overall distro as there used to be (are there tradeoffs to choosing KDE instead of sticking with Gnome) ? - can you specify your desktop choice at installation time ? - if you install both desktops, can you still select your desktop at login time (kdm/gdm) ? - if you install both desktops and not all users use the same, do applications installed at a later time get integrated in the menu system on both ? - is ALL of your integration work included in the SLED or is it a matter for Novell to only pick the bits they like ? If this is not the right forum to ask, please kindly point in the right direction. TIA Cheers. Bye. Ph.
