One trick is to drag the cashew behind your panel. Of course this is only a viable option if you panel is non-transparent.

Yah, for me, it's behind another widget, and the only way I even remember it's there is when I mistakenly click or hover the cursor too long in that corner. I'm not too bothered by it myself... I never use it, but I can easily ignore it. I really don't understand though why the KDE guy are so dead set against allowing users to hide or remove it. Everything else is configurable in KDE.. yet that seems like a Holy Object Not To Be Touched.
