Just want to know when kde 4.2 will be merged into the kde stable repository. That being said what is the difference between Factory and Stable?
Always the same questions ;-)
Yes, until some sanity prevails about naming conventions by Novell/SUSE.
As has been stated multiple times, there is no plan to release KDE 4.2 packages for openSUSE 11.1.
Stable is "openSUSE stable", meaning the stable, tested, officially released
"Officially released", "tested".
Then why confuse the heck out of users?
Why not simply, if these are "tested, officially released" packages, include them in the normal 11.1 update repositories so that those who have KDE 4.1.x installed will have it updated to the "tested, officially released" KDE 4.2 instead of all this buggerising around with STABLE/Factory "line dancing"?
STABLE does not contain KDE 4.2 for openSUSE 11.1. KDE 4.1.x is maintained in STABLE. STABLE are packages the openSUSE KDE team feels are suitable for openSUSE 11.1, that may or may not be put into the Updates repository based on the decisions of another group. If a package makes it to STABLE, it's likely to be included in the update repositories. There are no plans to introduce KDE 4.2 to STABLE, AFAIK.
KDE packages of the latest openSUSE release (+ some so far unreleased patches). Also made available for older openSUSE releases.
Factory is "development packages for next openSUSE release", but also made available for older openSUSE releases.
However, there's a special situation because 11.2 is likely to have KDE 4.3 - meaning 4.2 will be "skipped" by openSUSE in terms of official packages.
All goobly-dook from a users point of view.
How so? Please let me know at what point you determine his text "non-sense" and I'll attempt to clarify. If you don't *want* to know about such things, it you who are apathetic (and possibly ignorant) not (necessarily) the subject matter.
KDE4.3 and oS 11.2 has nothing to do with KDE4.2 and its official release for its use in 11.1.
KDE 4.2 has not been released as part of openSUSE 11.1. It is unlikely that it will ever be. "[M]aybe it'll be moved to stable extraordinarily as an exception to the rule." is the closest anyone has gotten to talking about a release of KDE 4.2 packages for openSUSE 11.1.
4.3 beta is expected to move to factory at some point before too long. What will happen to 4.2 then is undecided - maybe it'll be moved to stable extraordinarily as an exception to the rule, or it may be moved to a new project where it can remain unmaintained or it may be dropped altogether. Whatever happens this list will be notified about repo changes.
More goodly-dook and double-talk.
How is this "goodly-dook" or "double-talk"? IMO: It makes sense, so it's not "goodly-dook". It also doesn't make conflicting statements, do it isn't "double-talk". Could you please defend your assertion that it is "goodly-dook" OR "double- talk"?
I think this Build Service/Factory/Stable/Unstable or whatever has gone totally ga-ga and is causing more confusion that it was meant to solve.
Then, simply use the official, supported repositories. You opt-in the to confusion of the extra repositories.
KDE 4.2 is officially released, right? Then put it into the normal update repositories for oS 11.1.
The KDE 4.2 source was released by the KDE project. KDE 4.2 is not in any released version of openSUSE, and may not *ever* be in a released version of openSUSE. It won't be in the release of Debian Lenny on (roughly) the 14th, and will, most likely not bee in the release of Debian Squeeze. openSUSE is not the only distribution that may not have "official" "released" KDE 4.2 packages. -- Boyd Stephen Smith Jr. ,= ,-_-. =. bss@iguanasuicide.net ((_/)o o(\_)) ICQ: 514984 YM/AIM: DaTwinkDaddy `-'(. .)`-' http://iguanasuicide.net/ \_/
