quick question, why is the phonon-backend-vlc installed and not phonon- backend-gstreamer?
Several reasons. I'm a KDE user. Package names with an initial "g" tend to be gnome or gtk, or are derived from or having roots in one and/or the other. Any time I'm given a choice between two packages, one of which contains a string that begins with "g", and the other which does not, the one without becomes my initial choice. I have an additional aversion to gstreamer, as it does as Windows apps often do by incorporating versioning in its root package name. I have a second aversion in gstreamer's incorporating (usually unnecessary, plus 2 strokes to type, one of which is non-touch/top row) underscore character(s) in its filename. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive."
