[opensuse-kde3] kmail in 12.x
I have kde3 installed in suse 11.1, 11.4,12.1, 12.2, 12.3 It seems that in anything in the 12.x range kde3- kmail (1.9xxx) fails because it keeps on downloading allready downloaded email from isp provider pop servers. That does not happen with 11.4 and lower versions. Has the culprit been identified or perhaps a fix has been found? thanks, d. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+owner@opensuse.org

I had a similar problem for a while, but currently all works well for me. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+owner@opensuse.org

I've never had a problem, from 12.2 (now) back to 9.x ... and 12.3 Mx and Beta1 (haven't tested with RC1 yet) worked fine too. All I use is Kmail rather than the whole KdePim suite. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+owner@opensuse.org

I had a similar problem for a while, but currently all works well for me. well, it seems to be a problem here. is there something specific I can check for? any suggestions on what to look for? I really don't want to go to the land of kwallet and akonadi and nepomuk and strigi etc etc:) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+owner@opensuse.org

here is a new item that just popped up while i was using kmail 1.9.10 on kde3 release 162 in my most trusty suse 11.1 : an error message saying that the pop server for one of my accounts does not support the *uidl* (unique id list) command, which in turn would result into duplicate downloads. That's the first time ever I saw this error message and i have been using kde3 since it's first release, always on the same server (roadrunner), almost always on suse something, going back i don't even remember how many years. That makes me question the validity of the error message, or, God forbid, an "upgraded" version of the roadrunner pop server "improved" the handshake process and left me in the cold. Of course a call to roadrunner resulted in nothing, the only thing they know is the 3-4 basic settings for email access from windows and they can even get hostile if one even asks for the pop3 version they run (: And, as I was googling the error message - no cure listed anywhere other than delete from server - , i noticed that my suse 11.1 kmail started getting duplicate messages... any pop3 - kmail handshake gurus out there? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+owner@opensuse.org

I'm not a guru, merely a user. But as I wrote earlier, I've used Kmail with 3.5 right through the 10.x, 11.x and 12.x series, always with 3 POP accounts, and never had a problem. Re you sure your Kmail settings are correct? Here's the pertinent part of my ~/.kde/share/config/kmailrc, for one of my accounts: [Account 1] Folder=inbox Id=1050130222 Name=XXXXX Type=pop auth=USER check-exclude=false check-interval=0 filter-on-server=false filter-os-check-size=50000 host=mail.xxxx.net leave-on-server=false leave-on-server-count=0 leave-on-server-days=0 leave-on-server-size=0 login=xxxxx pass=xxxxxx pipelining=false port=110 precommand[$e]= sieve-alternate-url= sieve-port=2000 sieve-reuse-config=true sieve-support=false sieve-vacation-filename=kmail-vacation.siv store-passwd=true trash=trash use-ssl=false use-tls=false If yours checks out as much the same, is it possible that your ISP's POP side of its e-mail service isn't quite "standard"? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+owner@opensuse.org
my main desktop is suse 11.4 , 64 bit, with kde3. there everything works just fine. The second desktop has an older nvidia card but still fine (gt 240), an older intel mobo (965) but still ok, a reasonably fast q6600 cpu with 4 cores and a very new 27" qnix monitor, with 2560x1440 res. The *only* os that can display 2560x1440 is the 12.1 / kde3 live cd. On that desktop, i have 11.1, 11.4, 12.1 and 12.3 running. the 11.1 and 11.4 versions only have kde3, the 12.1 and 12.3 started with kde3 only, actually the 12.3 was an update from a second 12.1 install, then i added kde4 just in case i can solve my kmail duplicate messages problem. all theses systems have their kmail everything (data and configs) rsynced thru ssh from the rock steady "main" 11.4 work horse computer. on the second computer 11.1 and 11.4 work fine, on 12.1 and 12.3 the same identical kmail immediately starts getting duplicate messages!!! so it looks like i am going to switch over to claws if i am to keep my 12.1 or 12.3 / kde3 system as the main os in that machine, that will keep almost the same look and feel... ok, i should have checked this earlier, but for whatever wrong assumpsions i had made, I had not checked the kmail versions in my kde 3.5.10 installs in my various suses. To my amazement, my trusty old 11.4 is using kdepim3 release 3.5.10-239.1 in kde 3.5.10 release 219, while the 12.x installs use kdepim3 3.5.10-241.1/243.1/25.1.2 in...... kde 3.5.10 release 67!!!!!!!!!!!! is it possible?
