[opensuse-kde3] Compiz on 11.4 with kde3? Anybody? RPMs from where?
Guys, Just checking if anyone has compiz-fusion running on 11.4 with KDE3? I have checked and I have the 8.8 version packages installed, but they don't start. I have fusion-icon from the kde3 repo, but something isn't working. The one thing I notice is that there are no plugins available for the 8.8 compiz release (or at least I haven't found the right repo...) I still have 8.4 running on my 11.0 boxes and 8.6 running on my Arch Linux boxes, but I would like to get it running on 11.4. What say the experts? Anybody got it working? If so which rpms are you using? Thanks! -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+owner@opensuse.org

Here is the error I get on start: 00:27 alchemy:~> compiz --replace --sm-disable --indirect-rendering --ignore-desktop-hints ccp & [1] 28919 07:28 alchemy:~> compiz (core) - Error: Couldn't load plugin 'ccp' Makes sense since all the plugins are missing from the install. Works well for me. ccp is compizconfig-settings-manager. Install it of version 0.8.4 and libcompizconfig of version 0.8.8 from home:Herbster0815 repository. http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/Herbster0815/openSUSE_11.4 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+owner@opensuse.org

Hmm... I have the same packages you have and everything seems to be working fine, I'm not sure what is up. I know this Radeon card works with compiz and the open-source driver because I run in on Arch Linux. Well, honestly, I don't know. I presume they are all working OK, because I have never seen this error before and -- surely opensuse 11.4 has more python based apps than just fusion-icon and compizconfig-settings-manager.... ccsm opens fine, but as soon as I click on one of the widgets (i.e. "General Options"), then I get the python errors. The primary problem has to do with: /usr/lib64/compiz/libkconfig.so In order to get around the "libccs: dlopen: /usr/lib64/compizconfig/backends/libkconfig.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory" error, I soft-linked: /usr/lib64/compizconfig/backends/libkconfig.so -> /usr/lib64/compiz/libkconfig.so With the link in place, I get the following error: 13:05 alchemy:~> ccsm libccs: dlopen: /usr/lib64/compizconfig/backends/libkconfig.so: undefined symbol: core Loading icons... I need kde3-window-decorator :) I use compiz on and off. The kwin-crystal windeco is my normal setup. Also, when I did beta testing on compiz 9, it was so slow, I could watch the scan-lines draw the pixels on the screen. Compiz 8.x is more than fine for my install. I am really glad, and impressed that it is still available for 11.4. There are just some things you can't really improve on. ( kde 3.5.10 w/compiz 8.x is one of those things :) One issue I have with compiz (that has been around since 11.3) is that 'zoom desktop' is broken. It works fine on the Arch Linux install. kde3-window-decorator is a part of compiz. If you use Beryl, there is no need to stick with compiz 0.8.
