Not knocking the work everyone has done to keep KDE3 working on openSUSE, but have you guys tried Trinity Desktop/TDE? They have made a lot of improvements on the base system and I've been using it full-time for a while now with no issues. I've been very pleased with it and would recommend it now over KDE3. The current version is 14.04, and there are zypper repos for the current Leap 42.3.
TDE is not without problems, e.g.: http://bugs.pearsoncomputing.net/show_bug.cgi?id=2780 no notification on optical or USB media insertion http://bugs.pearsoncomputing.net/show_bug.cgi?id=2732 wish option to not create unwanted directories in $HOME http://bugs.pearsoncomputing.net/show_bug.cgi?id=2658 no icon in menu or system tray for KTTSMgr Not filed is the annoying relative absence of menu branches compared to KDE3, too many first level menu items with any significant amount of software installed.

At some point, is it really going to be worth trying to keep KDE3 working with newer versions of openSUSE when it's basically a static environment? -- "Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Whatever else you get, get wisdom." Proverbs 4:7 (New Living Translation)
