Did you read this?
I hadn't lately. I don't see how a 1-click would help unless I'm already in X, which I'm not. I don't login with XDM. The 1-click process is terribly unhelpful in determining what I need that I don't have.
It seems you did not read the page.
"I hadn't lately" implies that I did read it, both long ago, and since your reply pointer to it, both of which are in fact the case. Apparently something you see there is not something I recognize as an answer to this thread's major point. It does not say I must enable repositories/KDE3:/KDE3. It does not say I must use the 1-click process. The way I read that page, all requirements have been met. So still the question still remains why init 5 presents an XDM login screen instead of KDM3 login screen after using zypper to install kdebase3-kdm, setting DISPLAYMANAGER="kdm3", and rebooting. KDM3 does not seem to create a log somewhere discoverable which could point to the obstacle(s). -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive."
