Hi David, Thanks for posting updates. I wonder what happens if you have multiple user accounts. Do you have to login twice for each user after a reboot or is it enough if it's done for only one user? I am still trying to decide whether I want to install 42.1 or 42.2 on a new system. 42.1 might have in general more bugs resolved. Do you see any advantage in using 42.2 compared to 42.1? Thanks, Gianluca On Sat, 7 Jan 2017, David C. Rankin wrote:

Fresh 42.2 installation and same crashes here too. (kdesktop and kded, yes, they crash, but I suppose that the notification of kicker crash is wrong, I experience the notification, but I do not experience the crash of kicker). I am _not_ a coder, I do not know those crashes reasons and I do not know how to solve, but I can suggest a workaround. You can use it if you like at your own risk.
1) Prepare the following script
Open a new text file. Copy what follows
#!/bin/bash <snip>
This is strange. After I installed a couple of favorite ksplash and moodin kdm themes. I have been able to boot and start kde without any kded crash at all. I mean -- it is working flawlessly.
I wonder if there is a bad setting in the original /opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc that is removed or corrected when using the kcontrol kdm theme manager that strips the original commented kdmrc to one with bare settings??
I'll keep an eye on it, but I boot very infrequently bi-monthly, weekly (or on kernel updates) at most.
