      The problem is that all my source code compiles only with gcc/g++ 2.96.
So, it will be very important that *compiling* support be provided also.
I would need the libstdc++ 2.96 headers, gcc and g++ 2.96 compilers
and the 2.96 pre-processor.  Would there be a chance to get all these
"compiling" stuff from SuSE ?

No.  There is only *runtime* support for C++ programs compiled with gcc
2.96-ia64-000717 (package compat).  A gcc 2.95 for ia64 never existed.
