Shall we start a new radioproject? APRS?
Are there any programmers/hacker out there in the @-land? If - please read on! I´m dreaming on a new project for tracking of international ballooning, glidings and so on. We can use GPS (Global Position System), amateurradios(X-25), APRS (Automatic Position Reporting System) and Internet. As an example the system will work as follows: Different balloons, gliders, cars etz (objects) will transmit "spots" every second minute containing callsign and current position in longitud/latitude. Thoose spoots are retransmitted via radiodigipeaters/nodes to neares gateway between radio and internet. The gateway sends the spoot via the internet to a databaseserver. We already have the radiosystems, the radioprotocoll and the radiodigipeaters/nodes. We need: 1) A server (preferably LINUX) collecting all thoose spoots to a database (SQL?). 2) A cliant-program (downloaded from the server) calling the server, requesting latest "spots" from selected objects. As loong as the cliant program is connected to the Internet it will receive new spots from the server. If You are interested in vollonteer in this project we can start an open project on the SoursForge on the net. Think if we could be severel people in this project, som working with the server, other with the clientporgram and so on. It would be fasinating. There are already a system on the internet today, working as above. But there are some function missing (can´t select group of objects). Besides it is also so dominated by American the it is hard to find Europeens. Lets try to make a good idea from US even better! Looking forward to hear from You. 73 de Göran SM5HIH
