Thanks, John
I am not sure where this is leading... I have no objections to include all sorts of stuff in repositories or on DVD, including it in a Pattern, to my knowledge, means installing it when the pattern is selected. According to http://www.gnome.org/about/why.html there are several anticipated user groups: GNOME for Business GNOME for Home Users GNOME for Developers GNOME for the World GNOME for People with Disabilities GNOME for System Administrators These are by no means reflected in respective Patterns. yast2 sw_single shows under Patterns: GNOME Desktop Environment GNOME Base System GNOME Development zypper pt | grep gnome shows | devel_gnome | 11.0-92 | openSuSE-Factory | | gnome | 11.0-92 | openSuSE-Factory | i | gnome_admin | 11.0-92 | openSuSE-Factory | i | gnome_basis | 11.0-92 | openSuSE-Factory | i | gnome_basis_opt | 11.0-92 | openSuSE-Factory | | gnome_games | 11.0-92 | openSuSE-Factory | | gnome_ide | 11.0-92 | openSuSE-Factory | i | gnome_imaging | 11.0-92 | openSuSE-Factory | i | gnome_imaging_opt | 11.0-92 | openSuSE-Factory | | gnome_internet | 11.0-92 | openSuSE-Factory | i | gnome_laptop | 11.0-92 | openSuSE-Factory | | gnome_multimedia | 11.0-92 | openSuSE-Factory | | gnome_multimedia_opt | 11.0-92 | openSuSE-Factory | i | gnome_office | 11.0-92 | openSuSE-Factory | i | gnome_office_opt | 11.0-92 | openSuSE-Factory | i | gnome_utilities | 11.0-92 | openSuSE-Factory | i | gnome_utilities_opt | 11.0-92 | openSuSE-Factory | i | gnome_xgl | 11.0-92 | openSuSE-Factory | i | gnome_yast | 11.0-92 | openSuSE-Factory | | rest_cd_gnome | 11.0-92 | openSuSE-Factory | i | sw_management_gnome | 11.0-92 | openSuSE-Factory | Which is slightly irritating. So my suggestion is, before adding the umpteenth "nice to have" feature to clean up the patterns according to the "Why use GNOME" advertisement. I strongly object adding all sorts of stuff to a default installation, leaving it up to the user to find out about the unnecessary overhead s/he can clean out to save space and resources. Casual P.S. Again: feel free to disagree with my view ;-) ____________________________________________________________________________________ Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Mobile. It might be my upstream heart speaking here, but I'd love to see the live CD come with what is GNOME upstream (this includes cheese, eg), and with not too much "overhead". Okay, I'm definitely saying this with my upstream hat :-) So, that's a +1 for cheese integration, if it's not too late for 11.0. This is bug: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=366894 The concern has been disk space on the Live CD - but 20080509 test CD's seem to indicate we should have enough space. -JP -- JP Rosevear <jpr@novell.com> Novell, Inc. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+help@opensuse.org
