[opensuse-gnome] About IT translations on 11.2
Hello, Just a criticism reminder toward the Italian translation group which is responsible for bundle-gnome-lang-it (sorry for any mismatch on name; I am far from my linux box). For all the time the yast2 has been affected by a ugly error which printed out <mall> </mall> into the window which requests for super-user password. No correction have been issued in all this time, so I argue that italian group (if any) is not so careful on debugging/correction on this kind of issues. I resolved the problem by installing the Factory version of bundle-lang. Cheers, P.S. Did you write a bugzilla? I'm a translator for another language, and that's the method to tell any oS translation team that there is an error in the translation. Of course, after they do the change (if they accept it), and submit it to the server, it is not up to them for the translation to be pushed as an update to users. Another method is to contact them by email. There is a general translation list, and some languages have their own mail list (not Italian, AFAIK). But apart my lacks, I am not able to figure out why the team have not seen this problem, which is very noticeable. The proper method, the only one that should get results, is a bugzilla. I jumped into this email of yours because there is the word "translation" in the title. I don't know if they have. They may, but the error is "minor", so there is no update granted (translators do not decide this). The 11.3 version doesn't have the error, so they did correct it, after all. But they may not have seen it. Speaking for myself, I don't see my own translations. I expect testers (ie, you) to test and report back the errors they find. But reports are rare indeed.

There is no such thing. There is no way for translators to see all the result of what they translate except by running all those programs, using all possible sequences, so that all messages get printed. There is no "mock up" where we can see the result. It has to be the testers who, at the same time as they test programs, they do so in a translated language and report errors. This needs, of course, that the milestones in factory get the translation packages - and this does not depend on us only. Some teams, if they have enough people and time, pass all translations by two people. One translates, another checks. However, an error as the one you mention is very easy not to see (by a human) in the source code. At this moment, all translations are committed, there is no further translation work.
