[opensuse-gnome] External USB CD/DVD-RW Driver Not Working
openSUSE 12.1 x86_64 3.1.0-1.2-desktop GNOME3 3.2.1 I have an external USB CD/DVD drive. This drive has always 'just worked' in openSUSE 11.3 & 11.4. However, under 12.1, the drive doesn't seem to participate as a removable storage device. It does not appear in Nautilus when a disc is inserted or raise any prompt when a blank disc is inserted. Does it appear in "udisks --dump"? Vincent -- Les gens heureux ne sont pas pressés. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+owner@opensuse.org

Yes; both worked previously.
Does it happen for both, or only one of them?
Hmmm, actually neither of them appear to work.
What do you get in: gvfs-mount --list

Also, does anything happen when you plug it in: gvfs-mount --monitor
I unpowered, started monitor, and repowered the drive. Then inserted a DVD... awilliam@workstation:~> gvfs-mount --monitor Monitoring events. Press Ctrl+C to quit. Hrm, and in udisks --monitor (or --monitor-detail)? It really sounds like an issue deeper than GNOME, fwiw. Vincent -- Les gens heureux ne sont pas pressés. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+owner@opensuse.org

Changing the DVD is the drive doesn't seem to raise any events. Power-cycling the external drive results in - awilliam@workstation:~> udisks --monitor Monitoring activity from the disks daemon. I assume the fact that I see no events means there are no events being received by GNOME; and as a result GNOME does nothing [obviously]. So the issue must be in udisk / USB support. ?? -- System & Network Administrator [ LPI & NCLA ] <http://www.whitemiceconsulting.com> OpenGroupware Developer <http://www.opengroupware.us> Adam Tauno Williams -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+owner@opensuse.org

me guess: You upgraded from 11.4. I have the same problem on an upgrade from 11.4 --> 12.1 And I have it for all removable devices that do not exist on boot, and I may be wrong about boot. I have pmount installed and can use the devices via pmount or by mounting via root/super-user.
