[opensuse-gnome] gnome-panel slowness?

I am experiencing a rather weired slowness with gnome-panel in 10.3. Every program launched from a gnome-panel applet takes ages to start up compared to running it from a desktop "shortcut" or terminal. About 10 seconds more to be more precise. I initially thought it's just main-menu being slow, but it's not. I can also see it in other applets. Does anyone experience something similar?
