Feature changed by: Karl Cheng (qantas94heavy) Feature #313344, revision 6 Title: Move from by-id device naming to by-uuid - openSUSE Distribution: Unconfirmed + openSUSE Distribution: Done Priority Requester: Important Requested by: Mike Sterling (mikesterling) Partner organization: openSUSE.org Description: Both SLES 11 SP2 and OpenSUSE 12.1 use /dev/disk/by-id. The problem with the by-id naming scheme is that the underlying device's ID can change across reboots. This is an issue with the Hyper-V device platform, and is resolved by using either by-uuid or /dev/sdX naming conventions. Windows Server 2008 SP2: Intermittent failures observed. Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1: Intermittent failures observed. Windows Server 8 Beta: Intermittent failures observed. Failures in the above generally refer to an inability to mount the root filesystem after a reboot, rendering the VM useless. The ask to switch from /dev/disk/by-id to /dev/disk/by-uuid for device naming should resolve these issues. Business case (Partner benefit): openSUSE.org: Users of OpenSUSE on Hyper-V will not need to modify /etc/fstab to change the device names. -- openSUSE Feature: https://features.opensuse.org/313344
