do you have any autostart scripts or programs? Does it hang forever or only for a long time? Do you have any entries in the journal/logs? Can you try to disable the compositor when the situation occurs (Shift+Alt+F12) and reenable it?

Hi Stephan,

Lets try something crazy :) Can you remove the kactivities5 package (only this one !!!). you can easily do it from a root konsole and then use the command "rpm -e --nodeps kactivities5" Do this before you login in to the KDE session ! Afterwards try to login again and see if now the desktop loads.

New user has the same problem (hangs). No kded5 errors in the journal if I log in as this new user.

Oh damn, it was just an idea. I had an issue with login, similar to yours but not as terminal, earlier this year when it was getting to 85% extremely quickly then taking about 30 seconds to do the last 15%. I couldn't find any issues in the logs either. It looks as if some programs aren't perhaps logging as well as they should. One day it just went away and now it works fast all the way to the desktop.
